The Best Way to Get the Most from Your Scripture Study

Here's what they think:
I have a hard time understanding some of the words.
I don't get much out of it when I just read a chapter a day.
Sometimes, I forget to do it.
I'm too tired.
I know I should, but frankly, it can be boring.
I've heard all the stories so it's just a repeat.
I will study later when I have more time, but right now I'm too busy.
It's obvious that these thoughts keep us from feasting on the scriptures. If you have thoughts like this, how hard is it to regularly study the scriptures? It would be pretty tough, for sure!
So besides thinking:
The scriptures will give me more confidence today.
I find answers to my personal questions during my study time.
I love to gain insights as I cross-reference conference talks with the scriptures.
As I study it strengthens me against temptation.
My best advice to get the most of your scripture study is to focus on your own learning. Ask questions, seek answers. Use scriptures, conference addresses, missionary teaching tools and your journal to enhance personal revelation. Take time and pause in your studying to think of how the things you are reading pertain to you. Studying this way is so enlightening! It can be energizing and wonderful! This is when it feels like heaven is open to us and we draw ourselves closer to God.
When we have these experiences, studying is more completely fulfilling and we want it more in our lives. So naturally it becomes easier to do it.
So what are your thoughts about scripture study? Write them down. Discover the truth about why you may not be regularly feasting on the words. Then decide on new thoughts that motivate you to actually study! Think them as often as you can! Make studying the habit that you want it to be by changing what you think about studying!
This, my friends, is powerful stuff! Bring it on and make regular studying happen for you!
